How to Fix DRIVER CORRUPTED EXPOOL Error on Windows 10

Nobody likes getting errors on their Windows computer. They can be terrifying, especially if your whole screen changes its display to something that you’re not familiar with. One of the most alarming issues you can get on your Windows 10 device is the blue screen error or the DRIVER_CORRUPTED_EXPOOL error.

In some cases, the system can fix this issue right away after restarting, but sometimes, it can go on for a while, leaving you hopeless about your situation. If you’ve been experiencing the latter, here are some fixes you can do to solve this problem on your Windows 10.

How to Fix DRIVER CORRUPTED EXPOOL Error

Faulty device drivers on Windows 10 primarily cause the DRIVER_CORRUPTED_EXPOOL or blue screen errors. If you’ve installed an incompatible driver, your system will malfunction, causing this error message. In some situations, it is caused by a faulty app or corrupted configuration files.

Unfortunately, if your computer is stuck on the blue screen error, you have to wait until it restarts. But if you can restart or you can boot it in safe mode, follow the steps below to fix this error:

If you’ve recently installed an application before you saw this error message, try uninstalling it first to check if it’s causing the issue before making any changes on your computer. If the problem persists, go on with the fixes below.

1. Update Your Windows 10 System

Running an outdated system can cause various issues to your computer, including the DRIVER_CORRUPTED_EXPOOL error. Sometimes, a simple update can fix this issue. Here’s how.

  1. Open Windows Settings by pressing and holding Win + I.
  2. Then, go to Update & Security > Windows Update.
  3. On Windows Update, click Check for updates to see if new patches are available. If there is, install it and restart your computer.

Microsoft releases monthly updates called Patch Tuesdays to address bugs and issues on the Windows system. If the error is caused by a bug or system issue, updating it should do the trick. If there are no available updates, move on to the next fix.

2. Update Device Drivers

Like your system, outdated drivers can also cause many issues with your computer. If you haven’t updated them in a while, it may be the reason why you’re getting the blue screen error. All you have to do is get the latest version of the drivers, and this issue will be fixed. Follow these steps to update your drivers:

  1. Press and hold Win + R keys to open Run. Then type devmgmt.msc and press Enter.
  2. In most cases, the DRIVER_CORRUPTED_EXPOOL error is caused by a problem in your display driver. Click the arrow beside Display adapters to expand it. Then, look for your display driver. Right-click on it and choose the Update driver from the drop-down menu.
  3. Next, choose Search automatically for drivers. Windows will search your computer and the internet for the latest driver software. Wait for your system to finish the process.

Unfortunately, the Device Manager doesn’t always download the latest drivers. If you want to ensure that you have the latest drivers, you can manually download them from your device manufacturer.

3. Remove Faulty Drivers

As mentioned, the blue screen error is often caused by faulty or corrupted drivers. If you have been using an outdated driver, it might not be compatible with your system anymore, thus, causing the problem. All you have to do is remove them to fix the issue. To uninstall faulty drivers, follow these steps:

  1. Open Run by pressing and holding Win + R. Then type devmgmt.msc and press Enter.
  2. On the Device Manager, look for a yellow exclamation point beside any driver. If you found one, it means that you are using a faulty driver. Just right-click on the device driver and click Uninstall device.
  3. Once you’ve uninstalled the driver, restart your computer. Once your computer is booted up, your system will look for the correct driver and reinstall it.

4. Do a System Restore

System restore is one of the most useful features of Windows that allows you to revert your settings to a previous date when your computer isn’t facing the DRIVER_CORRUPTED_EXPOOL error. If you’ve created a restore point before, you can use that to go back to your system’s previous settings. Here’s how:

  1. Press and hold Win + S keys to open Windows Search.
  2. Next, type restore point and click the Create a restore point option on the search results.
  3. Under the System Protection tab, click the System Restore button to revert your settings to a previous date.
  4. Choose your restore point and follow the on-screen instruction to continue with the restoration process.

5. Update BIOS

A BIOS update can fix many Windows issues, including the blue screen error. However, you need to be careful when doing this method as it is an advanced procedure, and a simple mistake can make your computer unbootable. If you’re new to Windows troubleshooting, we suggest asking for help from someone more familiar with it.

Important reminder: Back up important files on your computer before proceeding with this method. This is to ensure that you won’t lose anything in the process.

  1. Press and hold Win + R keys to open Run. Then type msinfo32 and press Enter.
  2. On the System Information window, look for BIOS Version/Date on the right-side panel to check your PC’s BIOS version.
  3. Go to your device manufacturer’s website and look for the Downloads or Support page to get the latest BIOS for the specific model of your motherboard or computer.
  4. Next, download the latest BIOS version.
  5. After downloading the file, unzip and extract it. If you see a readme file, make sure to read it carefully, as it will give you instructions to update the BIOS.
  6. Then, copy and save the BIOS updated version to a blank USB and restart your computer to enter BIOS.
  7. Launch BIOS-flashing tool or BIOS/UEFI firmware update and select the BIOS file on your USB drive to start the update.

Blue Screen No More

Getting the blue screen error is terrifying since it stops you from accessing your system at all. It also makes you powerless since you have to wait for the system to restart on its own before you can do anything. If you see yourself in this position again, be patient and trust your system. Once you can use it again, follow the fixes below to stop it from occurring again.
